Christmas-time brings Man and Tree together in a symbiotic relationship such as at no other time.
At Christmas-time, the pine-tree enjoys pride of place in our homes for longer or shorter periods. Beyond the symbolism and significance of this most important Christian celebration, it also transmits a set of universal values. These messages are about Man, his search for peace and inner balance, both himself and his loved ones. Our symbiosis with Nature is experienced sensorially through the Christmas tree.
If you touch it, it tickles and stings.
If you remove it from the trunk, it sticks.
If you close your eyes, it’ll inebriate you with its scent.
Wide at the base, the Christmas tree welcomes and protects with its sharp needles, useful for hiding packages and colourful gifts. The Christmas tree can be decorated, sometimes in a sober manner, sometimes with bright coloured baubles, lights and even cumbersome garlands ... it always knows how to play the part. When it snows outdoors, its beauty is enhanced, carrying blankets of snow that elegantly adorn its branches. Looking at it from bottom to top, the Christmas tree takes the eyes upward, with its simple yet perfect shape, intuitively taking us upward where our thoughts end or wander off elsewhere.
The Christmas tree is our friend, accompanying us for the rest of our lives, always reassuring us with its cheerful and serene presence.
According to an ancient Kurdish saying: "Health is rooted in the brain, its trunk is our emotions, the branches and leaves are the body. Health blossoms when all parts work properly together".
We are like these trees, beautiful as individuals, gathering together in forests and creating magical environments. Let's not forget that, even after Christmas, we should continue mirroring ourselves in the trees every now and then, taking time on our own, doing things that are good for us.
This is what we hope and wish for in 2019.
